Autumn storms swept through the New York metropolitan area yesterday [October 10], spinning out a freakish combination of thick fog, rain and the season’s first snowfalls in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
The National Weather Service reported several “waterspouts,” a kind of wet tornado, in the waters near the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge. And Nassau County residents awoke to a resounding boom from a rare “superbolt”—a very intense boom contained in a thundercloud—that shook houses and set off burglar alarms.
